Are Sequels In Bollywood Really Needed?
Most times, the essence of an amazing film is lost when makers decide to come up with a sequel of a super hit film. We aren’t talking in the air. Records, statistics and public opinions say that.
Take for example the age old classic Nagina. The film was a massive hit but its sequel Nigahen was a disaster. The brilliant comedy film Hera Pheri was followed by its sequel Phir Hera Pheri which did upset us. The same goes with Dhamaal and its succeeding film Double Dhamaal.
Sometimes, we really wonder why producers even bother making sequels. While the original always remains a masterpiece, the sequel most often doesn’t do justice. Even though there is no dearth of ideas for good scripts in Bollywood, makers choose to dwell on the same cast and same storyline.
Of course, we cannot deny the fact that some films are made so well the first and the second time. Dabangg, Dhoom, Koi.. Mil Gaya, Lage Raho Munnabhai were pretty good films. Of course, some directors take that extra step of coming up with a third film as well and we wonder why? Just why!!
With Singham Returns all set to hit theaters soon, we wonder if this film will break all previous records that the film Singham had created. Or at least will be a good one and not be flop.
The question still remains- Are sequels really needed?
You tell us what you think about this subject.
