Every Female Star is Typecast Except Priyanka Chopra, Says Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu has no qualms admitting that every successful actor in Bollywood, male plus female, has been typecast including herself. Having made her mark of late mostly with horror films (successful ones at that), Bips states there’s nothing else that the audience wants to see her doing on screen.

Without giving any names, Bipasha says, “A particular actress has been playing only quintessential Punjabi girl roles whereas someone else is playing only a bubbly girl opposite the male superstars. Tell me which female actor is not typecast and is not doing the same thing again and again?”
“Except Priyanka Chopra I don’t think anybody else is experimenting with roles and attempting different genres. But that’s not their fault. For example, Vidya Balan is expected to do only particular kind of roles and if she does anything else, people reject it,” says Basu, explaining, I don’t know why people object to me doing horror films. At least, most of my horror movies are successful. As actors, you have no control on the genre of films you wish to do. Out of the offers we get, we need to choose the best. Now that could get repetitive but what’s the harm in it? If audience likes watching me in horror films I can’t stop doing that. They want to see bold Bipasha all the time.”
